Over P100T in cash up for grab in Youth Run
Around 2,000 members of different youth organizations in Cebu are expected to converge at the newly-renovated Plaza Independencia on Dec. 4 for the first ever Youth Run…Make A Stand.
The run will serve as a teaser for the District Youth Coordinating Council (DYCC) which Cebu will be hosting on March 30 to April 1 at the Basak campus of the University of San Jose Recoletos (USJ-R) where around 6,000 youth leaders from around the country are expected to attend.
A total of P101,400 in cash prizes will be at stake in the event which will have the 3-k, 5-k and 10-k categories. A total of 26 parishes in Cebu City will take part in the running event.
“Ilang registration fee gikan sa youth or running enthusiasts kay dako na jud kaayo na ug matabang para sa hosting sa Cebu of the Local World Youth Day,” said Ian Rey Pableo, DYCC president during yesterday’s official launching of the running event at the Harolds Hotel.
Race director is Priscillano Capangpangan.
Registration fee is pegged at P300 a part of which will be given to the DYCC to help fund Cebu’s hosting of the annual youth pilgrimage.
Article continues after this advertisementThe running event and the local world youth day was endorsed by Cebu Archbishop Jose Palma and the Commission on Higher Education through its director Dr. Amelia Biglete.

Registration centers can be found in big universities in Cebu including USJ-R, Cebu Institute of Technology (CIT), University of San Carlos and University of Cebu (UC).
Despite three other running events to be held on the same day, organizers remain hopeful that they can gather their desired number of runners by banking on the help of participating parishes.
The 10-k placers will get P10,000 for both male and female while P7,000 awaits the second placers. Third placers will pocket P5,000 while the fourth to 10th placers will get P1,500.
The 5k winners will receive P5,000 while second and third placers will get P3,000 and P1,500 respectively. Fourth to 10th placers will pocket P700 each.
The top three placers in the 3k category will receive P1,000, P800 and P600 while the fourth to 10th placers will get 300 each.
Runners can also register at the Cebu City Sports Center (CCSC), Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) office and at all participating universities or at the JAMP office with tel. number 266-2326
