More than 700 student athletes, coaches stranded in Masbate due to ‘Urduja’

GUINOBATAN, Albay—Masbate Provincial Meet student athletes, coaches, and officials from the islands of Ticao and Burias were stranded in mainland Masbate for almost two nights now as Tropical Storm “Urduja” brings
scattered rain showers in the Bicol Region.

The 737 strandees were participants in the recently concluded Masbate Provincial Meet which was held in Masbate City from Dec. 10 to 14.

According to Mark Anthony Rosal, Department of Education Masbate division disaster risk reduction and management coordinator, the athletes will be spending another night at four different schools in Mobo town and private houses in Masbate City.

As many as 353 of the elementary and secondary strandees are contingents from Ticao Island while 384 are from Burias Island.
