The President cited that while globalization has its benefits, it has somehow stunted the growth of some developing countries. He went on to suggest that highly-developed countries should give more opportunities to MSMEs especially from developing countries. KARL NORMAN ALONZO/PRESIDENTIAL PHOTO

CLARK FREEPORT ZONE, Pampanga—This zone would soon become the next economic hub of Luzon, President Rodrigo Duterte said Thursday.

“Clark is a very important destination now in the Philippines. For want of space, kung may magpunta doon sa amin (if people would go to us) easily I would say, ‘Go to Clark, and you have all the amenities of what a kind of site you have, flat lands,’” Duterte said in a speech during the first Kapampangan Food Festival here.

“Ang kulang na lang natin (What we just lack) is the infrastructure for mobility. But in due time, I think, in the fullness of God’s time, we will have it. I hope it would come, even half of what they have offered so far, kasi kalahati lang sana,” he added.

Duterte said the Philippines remains as an investment destination and the government was working to build infrastructure to “encourage travelers to come here so they can have more fun and exciting experience in the country.”

“I ask each of you to join me in spurring economic growth and fostering unity and solidarity here in Pampanga and the rest of Central Luzon. Let us show to the world what the Philippines has to offer: A world-class hospitality, sumptuous… and unique heritage,” he emphasized.

Clark Freeport Zone has become the government’s next target for development especially after the recently concluded Association for Southeast Asian Nations (Asean). The zone was the entry point of most of the Asean leaders and delegates. /jpv
