Embattled Commission on Elections (Comelec) chief Andres Bautista should resign immediately tomorrow as lawmakers impeached him at the House of Representatives on Wednesday afternoon, a former congressman said.
“Bautista has to resign by tomorrow kasi talo na siya sa dito sa voting sa House e (because he has been defeated here in the House voting),” former Negros Oriental Rep. Jacinto “Jing” Paras, one of the complainants of the impeachment charge filed against the poll chief.
Voting 137-75-2, the House of Representatives plenary reversed the committee on justice’s decision to junk the impeachment complaint against Bautista.

Paras also said that the poll chief should “come clean” and face the allegations hurled against him.
“It will set as a deterrent for other Comelec commissioners na ang kanilang posisyon ay hiram lang at di sila pwedeng manloloko sa taong-bayan (that their position is just temporary and they should not fool the people),” Paras said.
Bautista on Wednesday morning resigned from his position and would serve up until the end of the year. /jpv
