6 more Maute extremists killed in Marawi
Government troops have killed six more Islamic State-linked Maute terrorists in Marawi City, bringing the death toll to 759, the military said Thursday.
Joint Task Force Ranao deputy commander Col. Romeo Brawner Jr. confirmed in a text message that six more bodies were retrieved from the main battle area.
Death toll among government troops remained at 155.
On Wednesday, the military rescued 17 hostages of the terrorists — nine males and eight females.
Government forces have been battling the terrorists led by Isnilon Hapilon, the purported leader of the Islamic State in Southeast Asia, since May 23. Military officials say they see the end of the siege before the month ends. /idl
