PAO wants 12 other Caloocan cops summoned to Kian slay probe

The Public Attorneys’ Office (PAO) on Thursday asked the prosecutors from the Department of Justice (DOJ) to summon the 12 other police officers involved in the one-time big time raid in Caloocan where 17-year old Kian delos Santos was killed.
Aside from the names of the 12 police officers, PAO, through its Chief Persida Rueda-Acosta also asked the prosecutors to issue a subpoena for all the records of the Philippine National Police’s Internal Affairs Service (PNP-IAS) in their investigation on the administrative aspect of the case.
Present during the preliminary investigation are all the respondents Police Chief Inspector Amor Cerillo, commander of the Caloocan City Police Community Precinct 7, PO3 Arnel Oares, PO1 Jeremias Tolete Pereda and PO1 Jerwin Roque Cruz.
Atty. Oliver Yuan, legal counsel for the respondents, urged the prosecutors to give them time to submit their response to the complaint through a counter-affidavit.
In response, Senior Assistant State Prosecutor Tofel G. Austria, Assistant State Prosecutor Amanda L. Garcia and Associate Prosecution Attorney Moises Acaya gave the police up to Sept. 25 to submit their counter-affidavit.
Article continues after this advertisementThe prosecutors also required the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to present their witnesses on Sept. 25.
All in all, there are a total of 16 witnesses for Kian. Seven witnesses appeared before the DOJ panel and subscribed to their affidavits.
The panel of prosecutor set the submission of counter-affidavit on Sept. 25 while submission of a reply will be on Oct. 2 and Oct. 10 will be the filing of the rejoinder. After Oct. 10, the prosecutors said no more extension will be entertained and the case will be submitted for resolution. /je
