DOJ already providing protection to Kian’s parents — Aguirre
Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II on Tuesday said that the Department of Justice (DOJ) has already provided protection to the parents of 17-year old Kian Delos Santos.
The DOJ chief said Kian’s parents, Saldy and Lorenzana Delos Santos, voluntarily applied for the government’s Witness Protection Program (WPP).
“This just shows that contrary to the unfounded allegations of bias hurled against me by some ill-motivated or ill-informed sectors, the parents of Kian Delos Santos have full faith and confidence with me and the DOJ in the handling of their son’s case,” Aguirre said in a statement.
Kian’s parents will be under provisional coverage of the WPP while their application is being evaluated and processed.
They are assisted by the Public Attorneys’ Office led by its chief Persida Rueda-Acosta who has already filed murder and torture complaints against the police officers responsible for Kian’s death. JE
