The Court of Appeals has upheld the life terms meted out by a Quezon City Regional Trial Court (QCRTC) on 19 persons for the kidnapping-murder of Coca-Cola Philippines executive Betty Chua-Sy in November 2004.

In a 25-page ruling, the appellate court’s 4th Division saw no reason to overturn the guilty verdict handed down by Judge Alexander Balut of the QCRTC Branch 76 in December 2009 as there were no new arguments.

Found guilty were Edith Alazer, Alvin Labra, Cesar Amado, Benedicto de Lima, Mariolito Demol, Silverio Superable, Renato Superable, Ramon Demol, Ernesto Callos, Fidel Superable, Rodolfo Artoza, Hector Cornista, Jose Artoza Jr., Vicencio Soliat, Ciderio Macanib, Ramil Victoriano, Gerardo Anover and Alejandro Aldas. The 19th, Hunks Cornista, is at large.

Sy was on her way to work in Novaliches when she was abducted on Nov. 17, 2004. Her captors demanded P10 million from her family but she died after her captors shot her.
