Over 1,000 policemen nationwide have been tagged as rogues and are now the subject of operations by the Counter-Intelligence Task Force (CITF).
Senior Supt. Jose Chiquito Malayo said 1,122 police personnel were reported to be involved in illegal activities, particularly extortion and the drug trade.
Malayo said the illegal activities of the policemen were tipped off through text to the PNP hotlines: 0998-6702286 and 0995-7958569.
Of the 1,122 policemen tagged as rogues, 873 are nonofficers and 249 are ranking officers.
Since January, the CITF has arrested, mostly for extortion activities, 41 PNP personnel and 15 of their civilian accomplices based on 1,180 police-related concerns relayed through text.
According to Malayo, most of the 1,122 policemen are allegedly involved in extortion and are assigned in the National Capital Region.
Based on the complaints, 385 policemen are assigned in Metro Manila while nearly 300 are from Calabarzon and Central Luzon.
“641 personnel were identified in SMS reports as involved in the three most prevalent violations: protector of illegal activities, involvement in illegal drug activities and extortion,” Malayo said.
Other complaints received involved policemen in illegal gambling, physical injuries, illegal logging, kidnapping, smuggling, gunrunning as well as unexplained wealth.
