MANILA, Philippines — Three weather systems will cause parts of the country to experience rain on Friday, Nov. 29, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said.
In an early morning weathercast, Pagasa specialist Benison Estareja said the northeast monsoon, locally known as amihan, continues to affect Northern and Central Luzon as the shear line influences atmospheric conditions in most parts of Southern Luzon.
Estareja added that the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) is affecting Visayas and Mindanao.
“Ngayong araw po, asahan ang makulimlim na panahon sa Northern and Central Luzon, kabilang na dyan ang Cagayan Valley, Cordillera Administrative Region, and Aurora. Sasamahan din ‘yan ng mahina at katamtamang pag-ulan dahil sa northeast monsoon or amihan,” Estareja said.
(Today, expect overcast weather in Northern and Central Luzon, including Cagayan Valley, Cordillera Administrative Region, and Aurora. It will also be accompanied by light and moderate rain due to the northeast monsoon or amihan.)

“Sa mga kababayan po sa Quezon and Bicol Region, magdala po ng payong dahil magpapatuloy pa rin ang minsang paglakas ng ulan at thunderstorms – epekto ng shear line,” Estareja said.
(To our fellow citizens in Quezon and Bicol Region, bring an umbrella because occasional heavy rain and thunderstorms will continue – effect of the shear line.)
The Pagasa weather expert said the rest of Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon) and parts of Mimaropa (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon and Palawan) will have chances of rain and thunder on Friday also due to the northeast monsoon.
Palawan, Western Visayas, particularly Panay Islands, are expected to see moderate to cloudy skies with chances of rain and thunderstorms from Friday noon to evening, he added.
As the ITCZ affects Visayas and Mindanao, parts of these regions are anticipated to experience rain.
“Sa Negros region, Central Visayas, at Eastern Visayas, asahan ang kalat-kalat na pag-ulan epekto ng ITCZ. Possible ‘yung heavy to moderate na pag-ulan sa Eastern Samar, Leyte, and southern leyte kaya mag-ingat sa pagbaha at posibleng pagguho ng lupa,” the Pagasa weather specialist noted.
(In Negros region, Central Visayas and Eastern Visayas, expect scattered rainfall due to the ITCZ. Moderate to heavy rains are possible in eastern Samar, Leyte, and southern Leyte so beware of flooding and possible landslides.)

“Sa Mindanao, patuloy pa rin ang epekto ng ITCZ… Mataas pa rin ang banta ng pagbaha lalo sa low-lying areas at yung pagguho ng lupa sa mga bulubunduking lugar. Asahan ‘yung thunderstorms,” he likewise said.
(In Mindanao, the effect of ITCZ continues… There is a high chance of flooding, especially in low-lying areas and landslides in mountainous areas. Expect thunderstorms.)
There is also a chance that Surigao and Dinagat Islands will see rain on Friday, Nov. 29.
Regarding the country’s seaboards, Pagasa raised a gale warning over the coasts of the following:
- Batanes
- Ilocos Norte
- Northern Ilocos Sur
- Cagayan
- Isabela
- Northern Aurora
According to Pagasa, waves as high as 2.8 meters to 4.5 meters are likely.
