2-year-old girl drowns in Ecija irrigation canal

STO. DOMINGO, Nueva Ecija—A two-year-old girl drowned in an irrigation canal on Thursday morning (Aug. 3) in Barangay (village) Malayantoc here.

Victim Mabell Macatuno was all by herself at their house’s living area because her 19-year-old mother Mary  was busy washing clothes in the kitchen.

Before hanging the clothes outside, Mary checked on her daughter and realized she was missing.

Mary run out to search for the child, police said. Her neighbors later found the girl lifeless at a grassy portion of the canal a few meters away from the victim’s residence.

The girl was rushed to the district hospital but was pronounced dead by physician.
