Dismissed cop, wife, 2 kids found shot to death in Cebu
CEBU CITY — A policeman who was dismissed from the service allegedly killed his wife and two children before committing suicide early Sunday at their house in Barangay Valladolid, Carcar City, in southern Cebu.
The former lawman, identified as Joel Lopez, was found dead near the door of their bedroom with a gunshot wound in his mouth, according to Barangay Captain Celso Apura in an interview over radio station dyLA.
The bodies of his wife, a school teacher, and their two children — a teenaged girl and a young boy — were on a bed, he added. Each had a gunshot wound in the head, Apura said.
Lopez was assigned to the Lapu-Lapu City Police Office on Mactan Island, Cebu, but was removed from the service over a controversy involving a drug raid.
According to Apura, neighbors heard several muffled gunshots at about 7 a.m. from the house of the Lopezes. CBB/rga
