Hiroshi clinches Group A top spot

Hiroshi Football Club (FC) is now assured of a semifinals spot after topping group A of the men’s open of the ongoing Cebu Amateur Football Club (CAFC) 11th National Interclub Football Cup held in three different venues in Cebu City.

Hiroshi FC clinched the top spot after winning its final assignment against B-MEG of Bohol, 3-1, yesterday at the University of San Carlos-Technological Center (USC-TC) football field.

Hiroshi tallied a total of nine points after winning all of its elimination matches and will have three days to rest and prepare for its semifinals match against the second top team in group B.

Both teams employed a tight defense, which resulted to a scoreless first half of the match.

Late in the second half, Julito Lucanias was able to find a hole in B-MEG’s defense and found the back of the net at the 73rd minute. The match was leveled almost immediately with B-MEG’s Julio Jumaos also scoring a goal a minute later.

Hiroshi, however, remained undaunted and drilled in its second goal at the 78th minute courtesy of Harold Buot.

In group B, Waterfresh/Queen City United (QCU) solidified its hold of the top spot after routing the Coast Guard, 5-0.

Ariel Cahilig and Masahiko Yagi carried the scoring cudgels for Waterfresh/QCU. Cahilig completed a hat trick at the 17th, 28th and 54th minutes while Yagi scored his goals at the 12th and 66th minute via a penalty kick, which resulted from a hard tackle.

In the 40-Above, Hiroshi also continued to create havoc by stretching its winning streak to three by handing WealthBank QCU-A its first loss in the tournament, 3-2, Monday night at the San Roque football field.

Count FC, on the other hand, tallied its first win after demolishing Erco FC, 4-1.

In the boys 17-Under, Abellana National School (ANS) Pomeroy notched its second by blanking Danao FC, 5-0.

Springdale, on the other hand, had no such luck after ending its match against Manila Soccer Academy (MSA) in a scoreless draw.

In the distaff side, the USC-TC lady booters is also assured of a championship spot after winning all of its elimination assignments.

USC-TC edged Aroroy FC of Masbate, 1-0, in its final elimination match.

In the boys 14-Under, Blessed John was handed its first win on a silver platter after its opponent pulled out of the category due to lack of players. Ormoc FC, on the other hand, had a spectacular debut with a 9-0 demolition of SJSM/3BROS.

In the boys 12-Under, out-of-town teams debuted with a win each with San Carlos City’s Los Amigos FC edging VDR2 FC, 2-1, and Masbate’s Aroroy FC routing USC-NC, 6-1.

In the players 10, Canduman FC posted its first win at the expense of Cebu South United, 1-0, while Ateneo de Cebu (AdC) notched its second win with a 2-0 blanking of Danao FC.
