Digos jail surprise check yields no contraband

DIGOS CITY—The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) conducted a surprise inspection inside the Digos district jail Friday but failed to find any contraband such as illegal drugs or weapons.

Supt. Noel Guerrero, Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) Digos district jail warden, said PDEA agents, assisted by officials of Barangay (village) San Miguel, the local police and soldiers, conducted the sweep at dawn.

“No contraband has been found in all of the cells,” Guerrero said, adding that the BJMP had been strictly screening visitors to the jail.

The district jail here houses about 670 inmates, many of whom had been arrested for violation of the anti-drugs law. RAM/rga
