P200,000 reward offered for arrest of suspect in slay of Pempengco’s dad
MANILA, Philippines – A P200,000 reward awaits the person who can provide information that will lead to the arrest of the suspect in the murder of Ricky Pempengco, estranged father of international singing sensation Charice Pempengco.
The reward money was provided by Laguna Governor Jeorge Ejercito Estregan and San Pedro Mayor Calixto Cataquiz, who offered P100,000 each, Superintendent John Kirby Kraft, San Pedro police chief, said on Wednesday.
Kraft said that Task Force Pempengco composed of officers from the San Pedro and Laguna police has been formed.
He said that several tracker teams had to be dispatched as varying information pointed to several locations where the suspect Angel Capili could be hiding, including in the provinces of Laguna, Quezon, Batangas, and Cavite.
Capili was a native of Laram village in San Pedro, Laguna where Pempengco also lived, but moved away in 2005. He came back on October 31 to visit friends, said Kraft.
The police chief said that the suspect had prior records for a stabbing incident when he was still a resident of Laram. He will be charged with murder for Ricky Pempengco’s death, said Kraft.
Ricky Pempengco was stabbed dead while buying cigarettes near his home before midnight on Monday.
