DID YOU KNOW: National Artist Federico Aguilar Alcuaz

Today, Feb. 2, is the sixth death anniversary of National Artist for Visual Arts Federico Aguilar Alcuaz. Born on June 6, 1932 in Sta. Cruz, Manila, Alcuaz studied painting at the University of the Philippines and finished law at Ateneo de Manila. In 2007, he was awarded by the Philippine government with the Presidential Medal of Merit for his accomplishments in visual arts. He was named National Artist in 2009 and died in 2011. —Marielle Medina, Inquirer Research
