Typhoon ‘Nina’ weakens further as it nears landfall in Batangas
Typhoon “Nina” (international name: Nock-Ten) continued to weaken as it approached Southern Batangas.
The typhoon is about to make its fifth landfall over southern Batangas anytime, Benison Estareja of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said on Monday morning.
Nina previously made landfall over Bato, Catanduanes; Sagnay, Camarines Sur; San Andres, Southern Quezon; and Torrijos, Marinduque.

The typhoon was last located 60 kilometers south of Tayabas, Quezon, with maximum sustained winds of 140 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center, down from 150 kph, and gusts of up to 230 kph.

Nina moved west northwest at 20 kph, and may be out of the Philippine landmass on Monday afternoon.
It will exit the Philippine area of responsibility by Wednesday morning if it continues its track, Estareja said.
Signal No. 3 was raised over southern Quezon, Marinduque, Batangas, Northern Oriental Mindoro, Lubang Island, Cavite and Laguna.
Metro Manila, Rizal, Northern Quezon including Polillo Islands, Bulacan, Bataan, Pampanga, southern Zambales, rest of Oriental Mindoro, Romblon, northern Occidental Mindoro, Camarines Norte and Camarines Sur were under Signal No. 2.
Areas under Signal No. 1 were the rest of Occidental Mindoro, rest of Zambales, Tarlac, Nueva Ecija, southern Aurora, Pangasinan, Albay and Burias Island.
Moderate to heavy rains are expected within Nina’s 400-kilometer diameter.
