The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has warned transport network companies Uber and Grab against what it called “unreasonable” surges in their service rates during the holiday season.
In a statement on Saturday, the LTFRB said it received complaints against the ride-sharing applications where the surge supposedly ranged from P2,000 to P28,000.
“LTFRB strongly warns Uber and Grab not to take advantage of the holiday season as a reason to unreasonably surge their respective rates,” the statement read. “Also, the LTFRB has not been consulted on Uber’s ‘Upfront fares based on predictions.’”
“LTFRB reserves its rights to suspend/cancel the accreditation of Uber and Grab if these unreasonable surges will persist,” it added.
The agency advised the commuting public to report violations and complaints through their 24/7 hotline at 1342 or through SMS at 0917-550-1342 or 0998-550-1342. JE
