With a promise to address the worsening traffic in the country, Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade got the nod on Tuesday of a panel of the powerful Commission on Appointments.
“I come here today with a pledge … Give me your trust and support and my way of gratitude and my way of saying thank you is, I will not fail you,” Tugade said when he faced his confirmation hearing at the CA’s committee on transportation and communications.
But he appealed for more time to address the problem, saying it could not be solved overnight or in just six months.
It was not also right to say, he said, that he had done nothing in six months that he was at the helm of the Department of Transportation, the same way that he could not also claim that he had already done something substantial to address the traffic problem.
“Bigyan nyo ho ako ng konting panahon, anim na buwan pa lang. Wala po akong sinabi na in 100 days, sosolve-in ko yung problema ng trapiko. Hindi ho ako ganyan kagaling,” Tugade said.
On Senator Juan Miguel Zubiri’s motion, the committee recommended Tugade’s confirmation.
The recommendation will then be transmitted to the CA plenary for either approval or rejection. RAM/rga
