4 new PH ambassadors get CA nod

The Commission on Appointments unanimously approved on Wednesday the nominations of four Philippine ambassadors.

The four diplomats who got the nod of the Commission are the following:

  1. Uriel Norman Robles Garibay as ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary to the Republic of Kenya, with concurrent jurisdiction over the Republic of Burundi, Union of Comoros, Democratic Republic of Congo, Republic of the Congo, Republic of Malawi, Republic of Rwanda, Republic of Seychelles, Federal Republic of Somalia, United Republic of Tanzania, Republic of Uganda, and Republic of South Sudan, and as Permanent Representative to the United Nations Environmental Programme (UNEP) and United Nations Human Settlements Programme.
  1. Jose C. Laurel V as ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary to Japan.
  1. Shirley Ho-Vicario as ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary to the to the Federal Republic of Nigeria with concurrent jurisdiction over the Republic of Benin, Burkina Faso, the Republic of Cameroon, Central African Republic, the Republic of Cote D’lvoire or Ivory Coast, the Republic of Equatorial Guinea, the Gabonese Republic, the Islamic Republic of Gambia, the Republic of Ghana, the Republic of Guinea, the Republic of Liberia, the Republic of Senegal, the Republic of Sierra Leone and the Togolese Republic.
  1. Jose Santiago L. Sta. Romana as ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary to the People’s Republic of China with concurrent jurisdiction over the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea and Mongolia.

It was Senator Panfilo Lacson, as chair of the CA’s committee on foreign affairs, who moved for the confirmation of the four ambassadors.

“Your Committee on Foreign Affairs which I chair conducted a public hearing to deliberate on the nominations of four ambassadors that were submitted to the committee’s jurisdiction for its consideration. The Committee thereafter ruled that all the nominees possess the fitness and qualifications to perform their duties, and recommended that their nominations be submitted to the plenary for confirmation,” Lacson said.
