Heavy rains flood bridges, roads in Isabela, Cagayan

CAUAYAN CITY — Bridges and roads in the provinces of Isabela and Cagayan were not passable to vehicles on Thursday (Nov. 17) due to floods unleashed by heavy rains brought on by the tail-end of a cold front.

In Isabela, floods submerged the bridges of Cabagan-Santo Tomas, Santa Maria-Cabagan, and Gucab in Echague town and Baculod bridge in Ilagan.

The Pinacanauan Overflow Bridge in Tuguegarao, the Tawi Overflow Bridge in Penablanca town, the Abusag Bridge in Baggao town and the Quibal-Nanguillatan-Baggao provincial road were flooded as of this posting, the Cagayan Provincial Risk Reduction and Management Council said.

Reports said an average of 68 millimeters of heavy rain fell in Cagayan Valley in the past 36 hours.

Disaster officials noted the rise of the Cagayan river and its tributaries — Ganano, Pinacanauan, Magat and Siffu Rivers, according to the civil defense office through the Cagayan River Basin Flood Forecasting and Warning Center.  SFM
