Bulacan high school student drowns in river

NORZAGARAY, Bulacan — A senior high school student drowned in a river here on Saturday (Nov. 5).

The body of 16-year-old Mark Joseph Meneses was retrieved from the Bakas River in Sitio Kanyakkan, Matictic village on Sunday morning (Nov. 6) by rescuers.

Meneses and six of his friends from the Assumpta Academy in Bulakan town took a morning dip at the river.

But at noontime, strong currents swept three of the swimmers, among them Meneses who was drawn down into the river’s deeper portions, according to the students’ testimonies.
