De Lima on alleged role in Espinosa’s death: ‘Invent pa more’

“Invent pa more,” Senator Leila de Lima said on allegations that she has a hand in the death of Albuera Mayor Rolando Espinosa Sr.

Espinosa and a fellow inmate was shot dead last Saturday after allegedly firing shots at members of the Philippine National Police’s Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) Region 8 who were serving a search warrant at the Baybay provincial jail.

He was included on President Rodrigo Duterte’s list of officials involved in the drug trade.

Over the weekend, Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II said De Lima was included on Espinosa’s list of illegal drug coddlers.

“They are now linking me to the death of Mayor Espinosa. Invent pa more. This is another fabrication just like the fabricated testimonies of convicts who testified against me before the House inquiry,” De Lima said.

“Kelangan ko nang umaksyon para labanan lahat ng kabaliwan na ginagawa nila (I need to take action to counter all the foolishness that they are doing),” she added.

De Lima said the habeas corpus petition filed at the Supreme Court is only the first among more legal actions she will take against President Duterte and his men.

“My legal team is preparing other legal actions to be filed. Hindi advisable na i-announce (It’s not advisable to announce it) because we will be telegraphing our moves,” De Lima said in a press conference. RAM/rga
