Family outing turns tragic as 2 kids die in Batangas road mishap
A family vacation turned tragic after two children died and 14 others were hurt in a road accident in Malvar town in Batangas province on Monday afternoon, police said on Tuesday.
The victims had just come from a family outing in Anilao town and were heading home to Pasig City when the accident happened in Barangay (village) San Juan in Malvar at 4 p.m.
PO3 Richard Montero, case investigator, said the driver of the victims’ Mitsubishi L-300 van, Joseph Fernando, lost control of the steering wheel when he tried to overtake another vehicle.
As a result, the van fell into a 5-meter deep ditch, Montero said.
Police said Janelle Anne Dalanon, 9, and Jaylord Lance Dalanon, 12, died in the accident.
The injured victims, at least six of them children, were taken to the Mary Mediatrix Hospital in Lipa City.
