Religious group celebrates Family Week, holds outreach
THE members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, together with the Department of Social Welfare and Development and other nongovernment organizations, conducted various activities to mark the celebration of National Family Week last Sept. 18-30.
To answer the theme’s call of “confronting poverty and social exclusion,” the group conducted training seminars on preparing a 72-hour kit, making a portable stove, life saving skills and first aid in the 19 barangays in Lapu-Lapu City.
A trade fair was also organized for the Gender and Development members in the barangays. Entrepreneurship seminars were also held in Mandaue City.
The church members from Cebu City held a fun walk from the Cebu Temple to Asiatown IT Park and back as part of its advocacy of strengthening families and promoting the sanctity of marriage.
A family tree exhibit was also held at JY Square in Lahug, Cebu City, and at Lapu-Lapu City Hall.
Various community service projects were also held in the barangays of Consolacion town in northern Cebu and Talisay City in southern Cebu.
