Alleged drug pusher killed in Bohol shootout

GUINDULMAN, Bohol—An alleged drug pusher was killed in a shootout with police during a buy-bust operation on Monday night.

PO3 Ranulfo Acilo of Guindulman Police Station identified the suspect as Marcelo Yting Escartin, alias Turko, 32, a resident of Barangay (village) Lundag, Pilar town.

Acilo said the suspect temporarily rented a room in Barangay Trinidad in this town.

According to Acilo, they applied for a search warrant when they learned about the suspect’s illegal trade.

The warrant, however, was not served since Escartin transferred to another boarding house.

Guindulman police initially thought that Escarten left the town but later found out that the suspect relocated and continued selling drugs in Sitio Punta in Barangay Tabajan in this town.

They conducted a buy-bust operation there around 8:30 p.m. on Monday. Escartin sold a sachet of shabu to an operative.

Upon sensing that he was dealing with a policeman, he allegedly drew his gun to shoot the arresting officers but the operatives were able to shoot him first.

He suffered gunshot wound in his chest and head.

Scene of the Crime Operatives recovered from the area one .45 revolver, nine live ammunition and three sachets of shabu.

Insp. Dario Nuez, chief of Pilar Police Station, said Escartin was sixth on the list of drug personalities in Pilar town.

He also said Escartin refused to surrender during Oplan Tokhang. RAM/rga
