SAN PEDRO CITY, Laguna, Philippines—A village councilor in Biñan City in Laguna province was killed in a clash with policemen after a drug bust on Wednesday night, police said on Thursday.
A report from the Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon) regional police said Arlan Arcega, a councilor in Barangay (village) Dela Paz, and a companion approached an undercover policeman in the village and offered him a sachet of “shabu” (methamphetamine hydrochloride) at 11:45 p.m.
When the policeman was about to take the sachet, one of the suspects recognized him and drew a gun. This prompted another policeman in the area to fire at them.
Arcega was hit and died while being taken to a hospital. His companion, later identified as alias Jun, escaped and hid in one of the houses in the village.
Police, however, were able to arrest him and six other people, who were caught having a pot session in the house./rga
