‘Gener’ maintains course, seen to slow down

Typhoon “Gener” (international name: Malakas) maintained its course midday Friday and is seen to slow down as it moves closer to northern Taiwan.

Signal No. 1 remained hoisted over Batanes and Northern Cagayan including Babuyan Group of Islands, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said.

Gener packed maximum sustained winds of up to 150 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gusts of up to 185 kph.

The typhoon continued its northwest track at 24 kph.

By Sunday morning, Gener is expected to leave the Philippine Area of Responsibility.
