Storm warning signal in Batanes lifted

The tropical cyclone warning signal in Batanes has been lifted on Wednesday afternoon as typhoon “Ferdie” left the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) and moved toward Taiwan, the state weather bureau said.

In its 5 p.m. bulletin, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said Ferdie was moving in a northwest direction with a speed of 20 kilometers per hour (kph).

“Ferdie” exited PAR at 12:30 p.m.

The typhoon has maximum sustained winds of up to 175 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 210 kph. It was last plotted at 400 km northwest of Basco, Batanes.

Pagasa said moderate to heavy rains are expected within the typhoon’s 600-km diameter.

Typhoon “Gener,” meanwhile, was located at 1,130 km east of Baler, Aurora as of 3 p.m. It is not expected to make landfall in the country. RAM
