Duterte fetes outstanding cops
President Rodrigo Duterte led for the first time the awarding of outstanding uniformed and non-uniformed members of the Philippine National Police (PNP) during the police service’s 115th anniversary.
Duterte, PNP chief Dir. Gen. Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa distributed plaques to exemplary police units and personnel at the Philippine National Police headquarters in Camp Crame, Quezon City on Wednesday afternoon.
In his opening address, Dela Rosa lauded the 160,000-strong police force for making a mark in the history of the PNP for its relentless fight against the vicious drug problem in the country.
The PNP chief cited the accomplishments of the police in its intensified anti-drug drive. He noted that from July 1, the day he assumed office, until August 11, 572 drug suspects have been killed in police operations, 7,830 were arrested, while 564,109 drug users and pushers have surrendered to their authorities, vowing to mend their ways.
“Not only that, we are waging the same war within PNP to rid our ranks of misfits, scalawags and personnel involved in drugs,” Dela Rosa continued, adding that 18 cops involved in drugs have been dismissed while 2 were suspended.
