Ex-cop, soldier killed in Albay buy-bust
GUINOBATAN, Albay – A former policeman and a soldier were killed along with two other unidentified drug suspects in a buy-bust in Guinobatan town in Albay, police said Friday.
Chief Inspector Luke Ventura, Guinobatan police chief, said Fernando Delos Reyes Rigo, who held the rank of Police Officer 1 before he was dismissed from the service, Private First Class Joel Cerdan Coderes and their other two companions were the targets of the buy-bust operation at Purok 3, Barangay San Francisco at 7:55 p.m. Thursday.
Ventura said Rigo was on the town police’s drug watchlist. He was dismissed from Philippine National Police (PNP) nine years ago because of alleged involvement in extortion and indiscriminate firing.
He said the four drug suspects engaged policemen in a firefight during the operation. They all died while being taken to a hospital for treatment./rga
