Magnitude 5.0 quake hits General Santos, South Cotabato
KORONADAL CITY—A magnitude 5.0 earthquake hit General Santos City and South Cotabato on Saturday but state volcanologists said no casualties or damages had been reported.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said the quake, which struck at 5:08 p.m., was tectonic in origin and traced 13 kilometers east of General Santos. It had a depth of 24 km.
Intensity IV was felt in General Santos, Intensity III in Koronadal City, South Cotabato, and Intensity II in Kidapawan City.
Phivolcs said these were aftershocks.
