A heroic dog made his best “Lassie” impression after saving a 14-year old teen who got lost in the woods.  In this case, the rescuing dog was not a Collie, but a Labrador named Max.

According to a Huffington Post report, Juan Heriberto Trevino from Galeana, Mexico, was at a summer camp in the Sierra Madre Oriental mountain range last month and went off to get some firewood.

Unfortunately, the youngster accidentally slipped down a ravine, colliding with a tree and landing on a dry riverbed, the report said.

Luckily, the camp’s mascot, Max, reportedly followed the teen on his run, and stayed by his side until they were both rescued more than 40 hours after the incident.

Martin Castillo, deputy director of the local police, said that part of the mountain was a very easy place to get lost in.

“It’s very cold at night as it is very high,” Castillo commented on the pair’s dire situation. “The child was lucky to find the dog.”

The resourceful mutt also led the boy to a puddle with water they could drink to stay hydrated, Castillo added.

Max guided the injured boy as they walked on the ravine floor until exhaustion. After two days of trekking, they chanced upon a cabin, where they were cared for by the residents until a rescue crew arrived.

Apart from being malnourished and exhausted, Trevino was deemed physically stable, rescue officials said.

A month after their miraculous journey, Trevino is now reunited with his family in Mexico. As a form of gratitude, he reportedly wanted to adopt Max for his act of valor, but the heroic labrador has an owner.  Khristian Ibarrola
