Ex-traffic enforcer slain in Laguna drug bust

SAN PEDRO CITY — A former traffic enforcer was killed after trading shots with policemen in a drug bust in Calamba City in Laguna province on Saturday night, police said on Sunday.

Insp. Roselle Orate, Laguna police information officer, said Ranilo Amor, formerly employed by the Calamba government as a traffic enforcer, engaged policemen in a gunfight following a buy bust operation in Barangay Real at 11 p.m. Saturday.

Amor, who was accompanied by a woman, met with undercover police agents for the transaction but when the law enforcers were about to arrest him, he fired at them and escaped on board his motorcycle.

Orate said Amor, during the chase, threw a hand grenade at the pursuing policemen. The grenade, however, was a dud.

“Fortunately it did not explode,” Orate said.

She said policemen caught up with the suspect inside the Calamba Heights Subdivision where the shootout happened. Amor’s companion escaped.  JE/rga
