Did you know: Filipino boxer Anthony Villanueva
Filipino boxer Anthony Villanueva won the first of the country’s two Olympic silver medals in October 1964 during the Tokyo Olympics. Anthony, son of boxer Jose Luis Villanueva who won a bronze medal for boxing during the 1932 Olympics, fought Russian Stanislav Stepashkin in the men’s featherweight division. The country’s second Olympic silver medal was won by another boxer, Mansueto “Onyok” Velasco Jr. in 1996. Velasco’s brother, Roel, won an Olympic bronze medal in 1992 in the same sport.
