5 hurt in Davao City grenade blast
DAVAO CITY, Philippines—Five people were injured when a grenade exploded in Barangay Lamanan in Calinan district around 3 p.m. Thursday, police reported.
Senior Supt. Michael John Dubria, Davao City police director, said Lamanan village chief Nicanor Pepito was on board a vehicle with his staff when he noticed they were trailed by men riding tandem, who later lobbed a grenade at them.
Pepito was able to pick up the grenade before it had a chance to explode and threw it away outside, wounding five people, Dubria said.
The incident was still being investigated, he added. RAM/rga
