The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) is investigating the identity of “Peter Lim,” one of the drug lords named by President Rodrigo Duterte as being under the protection of a retired general.
“The NBI are doing what needs to be done, to establish the identity, to establish culpability,” Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II told reporters Monday.
Lim, according to Duterte, is part of a drug triad along with Peter Co or Wu Tuan and Herbert “Ampang” Colangco.
Duterte met with a Cebu-based Peter Lim over the weekend.
The businessmen reportedly met with the President to clear his name.
In Cebu, there are already 400 “Peter Lim” but nationwide, there are 4,000 “Peter Lim.”
Aguirre said once the NBI identifies the drug lord “Peter Lim” and files a complaint before the Department of Justice (DOJ), only then will they conduct a preliminary investigation.
“Once there is evidence of culpability, then, we are going to investigate after they file the case before the DOJ,” Aguirre said. RAM/rga
