1 dead, 4 hurt as truck falls into Benguet ravine

BAGUIO CITY–One of the passengers of an Isuzu Elf truck died on Saturday afternoon (May 27) when the vehicle drove off a mountain road and fell 200 meters down a ravine in Benguet capital, La Trinidad, the Cordillera police said.

Rescuers said Pedro Gumisa, 47, died on the way to the hospital, while four others were injured: the truck’s driver Kimberly Dingen Tunguet, 15-year-old Roger Widwidan Aspilan, Milanio Widwidan Aspilan, and Tony Tawing Pinmangin.

The police have not yet identified three other passengers who were able to leap off the vehicle (with plate no. CTK 153) when it fell at 3:30 p.m. along sitio Induyan in Alno village, said Supt. Cherry Fajardo, Cordillera police spokesperson.

The group was driving from Tublay town. The passengers reside in Baguio City. CDG
