OLONGAPO CITY — Police on Sunday confiscated drugs and weapons in a court-approved raid of 14 detention cells at the Zambales provincial jail.

A composite team led by the police Criminal Investigation and Detection Group “found 40 grams of shabu (methamphetamine hydrochloride), a kilogram of repackaged dried marijuana, and improvised deadly weapons in three detention cells,” using a search warrant issued by a Regional Trial Court in Gapan, Nueva Ecija province,  Chief Insp. Ferdinand Mendoza, head of CIDG in Zambales, said on Monday.

Five prison inmates are facing charges for violating the Comprehensive Dangerous Drug Act of 2002 and for illegal possession of weapons.

Police will also file charges against the provincial jail warden, Mendoza said. JE/rga
