KORONADAL CITY, Philippines—Seven people, two of them minors, died while eight others were seriously injured when a passenger van collided with a truck in Kiamba, Sarangani, police said Thursday.
Police Officer 1 Dexter Allan Narvaez, investigator at the Kiamba Police Office, told the Inquirer by phone that the passenger van was heading towards General Santos City around 3:35 p.m. when one of its tires burst.
Narvaez said van driver Abdulvander Dani lost control of the vehicle, which swerved to the opposite lane. The van eventually slammed onto an incoming truck owned by the South Cotabato Electric Coop. II.
The fatalities were identified as Crispina Lazelle and her daughter MayMay, Myrna Tangjal, 15-year-old Usman Yuga, Irish Gail Rosalia, 13-year-old Jan Marist Valmoria and truck driver Gregorio Hombrog.
Dani, his four other passengers and three other people in the truck were also injured.
