Petilla wins fresh mandate as Leyte governor
TACLOBAN CITY, Philippines—Leyte Gov. Leopoldo Dominico Petilla has just been given a fresh mandate.
He was proclaimed on Tuesday night by the Board of Canvassers after he trounced his opponents in the gubernatorial race.
Petilla, brother of former energy secretary Jerico Petilla who is tailing in the senatorial race, obtained 448,957 votes, way ahead of his two rivals, Bal Falcone and Philip Nielo, who got 13,209 and 13,036 votes, respectively.
The reelected governor said that he will focus on rehabilitating the agriculture sector, particularly the coconut industry which suffered the brunt of Supertyphoon “Yolanda” in 2013. RAM
