Mayoralty candidate, companion hurt in Samar town shooting
CALBAYOG CITY, Samar—A mayoralty candidate and his companion were wounded when they were shot by three men on board a motorcycle early morning on Monday in San Jorge town, Samar province.
Councilor Lester G. Bisnar, 48 and Noel Javolin, 37, suffered gunshot wounds in the leg and were brought to the hospital for treatment.
Bisnar is running for mayor of San Jorge under the Nacionalista Party while Javolin is a farmer from Barangay (village) Matalon of the same town.
According to Senior Insp. Genaro Nabual, San Jorge police chief, the suspects were identified as Stephen Grey, Norman Bernales and Emmanuel Pacampara based on accounts of witnesses.
He said Bisnar and Javolin were heading home from Catbalogan City on board a van when they were shot by the suspects riding a single motorcycle at 4:15 a.m. on Monday in Barangay Antiana, San Jorge.
The suspects then sped off after the shooting.
