Presidential candidate Senator Grace Poe was “elated” that she found a new ally in Albay Governor Joey Salceda, who has withdrawn his support for administration bet Manuel “Mar” Roxas II, her spokesman said on Friday.

“Sen. Poe is thankful to the good governor for his support of her candidacy. She is steadfast in fighting for those who have been left behind, those who have not felt the growth of our economy,” Poe’s spokesman, Valenzuela Mayor Rex Gatchalian, said in a statement.

Poe, he said, is “extremely excited” to be working with Salceda, who he said “brings to the table a wealth of economic expertise.”

“Together, Sen. Poe and Gov. Salceda will fight the battle to make our economic growth inclusive making sure that no Filipino is left behind,” the spokesman said.

“The good governor will also be working with Sen. Poe in improving the competitiveness and investment climate of the country,” Gatchalian added.

“Sen. Poe is elated that she found a new ally to carry on this task. In the coming days, we expect more public servants with the same vision to join the Gobyernong may Puso (Government With a Heart) wagon,” Gatchalian added.

Salceda, a member of Roxas’ Liberal Party (LP), said he is supporting Poe’s presidential bid because “she shares our values of authentic humanism, shares our goals of countryside development and national competitiveness and certainly her compassion will ensure that the impact will be shared by all.”

“Ang presidente ko ay may malinaw na plano at may puso para sa ordinaryong Filipino. May pagkiling sa kanayunan at may paninindigan para sa bayan. Malinis ang intensyon. May galing at lakas ng loob magpatupad ng batas,” the governor was quoted as saying.

(My president has clear plans and has the heart for the ordinary Filipino. She listens to countryside concerns and would stand firm for the country. Her intentions are pure. She has the ability and courage to enforce the law).

Salceda’s support for Poe came just a day after the political group of the late Senator Raul Roco, Aksyon Demokratiko, and its allied parties, threw their support behind her presidential bid. RAM
