Some areas in Pasig, Marikina and San Mateo are in danger of getting flooded due to the spaces in Marikina River banks being occupied by the ongoing construction of a real estate project.
The company being questioned is Bright Future Realty Corporation.
In an interview on Radyo Inquirer, Brgy. Industrial Valley Complex (IVC) Captain Fernando Mira said the part near the SM Mall is where the dumping of soil and other construction materials are being made, which causes the narrowing of the river.
Mira said the possible flooding of areas near the project include barangays (villages) Santolan in Pasig; Malanday, Barangka, Kalumpang, IVC, Dela Pena, Tanong, Tumana and Nangka in Marikina. In San Mateo, Rizal, covered are the barangays Banaba, Ampid and Guitnang Bayan.
“Hindi magiging maganda sa kalagayan ng IVC dahil sa taas ng tambak na iyan baka kapag dumating ang malakas na ulan at bumaha e maging malaking epekto sa Olandes dahil sa imbis na makakatulong ang lawak ng lupa na pag aagusan ng tubig parang mahaharang iyan, mahaharang ang tubig at matatapon ang tubig sa IVC,” said Mira in the interview.
Mira has coordinated with his fellow village charmen and he said they are ready to have a meeting with owners of Bright Future Realty Corporation.
“There was no consultation made when the dumping was done and no information drive. We were just surprised of the dumping,” he said.
He added he is worried because they are the ones who will be responsible in the future for their constituents and their safety when storms and other natural disasters strike. He said it can be recalled the areas he mentioned are those heavily affected by Typhoon Ondoy in 2009.
As of posting, Bright Future Realty Corporation hasn’t issued a statement regarding the complaint of residents.
