Wolves trip Titans, take solo lead in E-League

THE Convergys Wolves prevailed in the battle of heavyweights, nipping arch-nemesis Teletech Titans, 77-74, last Saturday in the 2011 Powerade E-League for Basketball at the City Sports Club-Cebu Gym.

The close victory allowed the Wolves to exact revenge on the Titans who defeated them in their championship series last year, denying them of a third straight title.

More importantly, by beating the defending champions, Convergys took sole possession of the lead in the standings with a 13-2 record.

Ronald Mabanto paced the Wolves with 17 points, Dean Junber Escalon added 16 while Joshua Ryan Yam had 10 points and 11 rebounds.

The Titans suffered their third loss in 15 games despite the solid outing of Sherwin Emmanuelle Resilla, who piled up 28 points and 10 rebounds. Sherwin Anghay scored 15 points and Lourenz Limpangog had 10 for the Titans, who trailed by 10 points in the middle quarters that spelled their downfall.

In the other game, the Eperformax Reds sealed their 10th win with an easy 83-52 triumph over the JP Morgan Chase and Co. Bankers.

Mark Jeffrey Baello fired 26 points, Floyd Singco scattered 19, John Ryan Benlota added 16, while Joel Nebria had 10 for the Reds, who improved to 10-5 (win-loss).

Petronilo Blanco tallied 24 and Jonathan Zaragosa netted 20 for the Bankers, who slipped to 3-11.

The Supportsave Dragons improved to 6-9 with a default win over winless Executive Boutique Tarantulas (0-14). /EDITORIAL ASSISTANT CALVIN D. CORDOVA
