Alan Cayetano not buying Binay’s defense

“Why not dispute it line by line?”

This was the challenge of Senate Majority Leader Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano to Vice President Jejomar Binay on the Anti-Money Laundering Council (AMLC) report saying he got billions from infrastructure projects while he was mayor of Makati City and used the amount coursed through dummies to fund his 2010 election campaign.

Cayetano slammed Binay for saying the allegations hurled against him and his family were merely meant to derail his presidential bid.

“Bakit si Vice President Binay ayaw saguting ng diretso (ang mga alegasyon sa kanya)?” the senator said during the Kapihan sa Senado on Thursday.

Cayetano said Binay should stop giving general statements that he was being politicized and should instead look into the AMLC report and answer it point by point.

Before the AMLC report, the Commission on Audit (COA) has also recommended charges against Binay over the allegedly anomalous construction of the P2.8-billion Makati City Hall Parking Building II.

But Binay maintained that his critics were behind the series of news reports meant to derail his candidacy and discredit his family’s reputation.

He said he expected more negative campaigning to come especially as his rivals are desperate to beat him in the May elections.
