CLARK AIR BASE, Pampanga— Vice President Jejomar Binay laughed on Monday when he was told of presidential rival Mar Roxas’ claim that Makati City was now yellow country.

“Let’s just see the results of the elections,” Binay also told reporters when asked if he thought acting Makati Mayor and Liberal Party (LP) member Romulo “Kid” Peña would beat his daughter, Abigail Binay, who will run against Peña for the mayoral post.

Echoing her father, Sen. Nancy Binay said the people would see on Election Day “if Makati is truly yellow.”

Pointing out that Makati had become “yellow” because Peña was a member of the “yellow” LP, Senator Binay said Peña’s running mate was the daughter of former Makati Vice Mayor Ernesto Mercado, an erstwhile Binay ally.

Mercado has accused the Vice President of accepting kickbacks from Makati infrastructure projects, prompting an investigation by the Office of the Ombudsman.

“You will really see it is all about the presidential run of Mar Roxas and that is why they have been trying to destroy our family,” the senator said.

Asked how strong Peña would be against her sister in their mayoral fight, the senator said: “Let’s just see on May 9 who will be the mayor of Makati.”
