BATANGAS CITY—A village chief was shot and killed by two men in Mataas na Kahoy town in Batangas province on Wednesday morning, police said.
However, Jacinto Gardiola, chief of Barangay (village) 2 in Mataas na Kahoy, who was wounded, was able to return fire, killing one of the gunmen who attacked him at 6:20 a.m., said Senior Supt. Arcadio Ronquillo, Batangas provincial police director.
Ronquillo identified the slain gunman as Pedro Magracia, 63, a resident of Tiaong town in Quezon province.
Magracia died instantly while his companion escaped.
Gardiola died while being taken to the Metro San Jose Medical Center in San Jose town, Batangas.
Recovered from the crime scene were a .45 cal. pistol, cartridges for .45 cal. and 9 mm pistols and Magracia’s wallet containing identification cards.
The motorcycle that the gunmen used was recovered by policemen in Barangay Nangkaan in Mataas na Kahoy town. Investigators said the motorcycle was registered to a resident of Sariaya town in Quezon. RAM
