CITY OF MALOLOS — The Bulacan policeman who hurt the son of Bulacan Governor Wilhelmino Sy-Alvarado in a Sunday vehicular collision has been charged for attempted murder, the Bulacan police office said.

PO3 Marlon Calderon was reportedly drunk while driving the Toyota Vios that struck the vehicle of Jose Antonio “Jonathan” Sy-Alvarado, a Liberal Party congressional candidate, at 1:40 a.m. along the MacArthur highway in Barangay Longos.

Cantilan and staff member Jericho Lubaton suffered minor bruises from the crash, but the governor’s son had been confined at a Manila hospital for head injuries. He was seated at the backseat of the vehicle.

A member of the Alvarado family said they also intend to charge the policeman.

According to the family, Cantilan was told to stop and give way to Calderon’s vehicle which was swerving. But the policeman’s vehicle plowed into them, an Alvarado family member said.

Calderon was also charged for driving while intoxicated, as well as for driving without a license, according to Supt. Arwin Tadeo, Malolos chief of police.
