CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, Philippines – Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte has deplored that infrastructures projects were mostly concentrated in Manila, leaving behind the countryside, especially Mindanao.
During the first presidential debates in Cagayan de Oro Sunday, Duterte said 64 percent of infrastructure projects were given to Metro Manila.
“You have to give us our share,” Duterte said, adding that the government should give Mindanao their share of the public’s taxes.
The tough-talking mayor said there is disparity in terms of budget given to Mindanao compared to Metro Manila
“It is this disparity which is why people are clamoring for federal government,” he said.
Duterte earlier promised to banish the “Manila-centric” attitude in government where most of the funds were given to Metro Manila.
With this pronouncement, Duterte vowed to push for federalism to empower local governments to spur developments in their area.
